Lute FP I almost moved on halfway through, wondering if I’d listen to it much if I bought it. Then the last ‘song’ rolled, which is really just the whole album wrapped into one brilliant stream-of-conscious chunk of alternative rock. I’m still sorting out how the first album half differs from the final ‘song’, but therein lies the delight of the challenge.

Lush female vocals and tasteful guitar work play with the bottom-heavy rhythms, while melody and mature songwriting tie it all together.

Carsten Pieper Haha, I got their Girl/Boy Kiss EPs (catchy alternative pop/rock songs) to give myself a rest from the mostly proggy/heady stuff I mostly seem to be reveling in here at Bandcamp and what do Straight Sex do? They turn proggy with their next release :-))

muschiosauro What a surprise! After two awesome EPs of straigthforward indie-rock, I would never expect such a bold and radical change. But yes. They decided to go full prog on this, with a seriously exhilarating 9-part, 35-minute suite integrating indie vibes into a larger, fresh and invigorating whole full of twists and turns, spaced out riffs and a great call and response interplay between the instruments and the warm female vocals. They say this is their final record: Reconsider it, guys! I want more! Favorite track: Hoitecathy III (The Battle I).

Si je n'avais pas jeté un oeil aux crédits, j'aurais juré qu'il s'agissait là de tout un orchestre. Hé non, nous avons affaire à un trio ! Autrement dit, on sait déjà qu'il y a une grande maîtrise du mixage et des arrangements. Their Arc was one of the positive surprises in 2019, as I have to admit to never have heard by this British sextet before. Their way of mixing different influences is quite special, at least I don't know any other band with a similar approach (although on first listening the indie/alternative rock component might play a lesser role than on Arc). This time, there's really nothing to moan about! I've criticized the band's previous two albums for containing too much pointless improvisations, while, at the same time, I highly appreciated the brilliant songwriting. "Farmhouse Odyssey" have used the past three years wisely for perfecting the latter, and I like the way they root their music in the sound of the 70's, while avoiding the annoying stereotypes of this decade. I'm especially pleased to find a 12-minute track here, that doesn't sound like assembled from parts in the beginner's prog construction kit. Sven B. Schreiber (sbs)
